Extract tablets are the easiest kratom format to dose correctly, and also the easiest to over-do if you treat them like leaf. The concentration means a small object carries a real serving. This guide is the practical version: what a tablet dose is, where to start, how to time it, and how to split it. It's written around Tempo by Dialed (a 250 mg kratom alkaloid blend per cross-scored tablet: 20 mg mitragynine + 30 mg 13-OH corydalis extract of the 250 mg blend, rated Intensity 08/10 on the pack), but the principles apply to any standardized extract tablet.
Two things up front. Tempo is for adults 21 and over. And nothing here is medical advice; if you have a medical condition, take medication, or are pregnant or nursing, talk to a physician before using any kratom product.
Think in milligrams, not grams
Powder users think in grams of leaf. Tablet users think in milligrams of mitragynine, the primary kratom alkaloid. To translate: commercial leaf runs roughly 0.8–1.8% mitragynine, so one gram of leaf is 8–18 mg. That means:
| Leaf serving | Approx. mitragynine | Tempo equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| 1 g | 8–18 mg | About half a tablet |
| 2 g | 16–36 mg | About one tablet |
| 3 g | 24–54 mg | One tablet, possibly one and a half |
Notice how wide the leaf ranges are. That's the reason tablets exist. Also note that Tempo adds 30 mg of corydalis extract, which changes how a given mitragynine dose feels (fuller, smoother), so don't assume "20 mg mitragynine" in Tempo feels like 20 mg from plain leaf. Treat it as its own thing and start below where you think you'd land. More on the pairing in why corydalis and kratom work together.
Where to start
- First serving ever: half a tablet. Snap it on the cross-score. That's 10 mg mitragynine + 15 mg corydalis extract.
- Wait 30–45 minutes before deciding anything. Onset for a pressed extract tablet is typically 20–40 minutes; food can push it later.
- Do not take the other half the same day on your first try. Learn what a half does, then next time decide whether one tablet is right for you.
- Established serving: one tablet. For most people that's the ceiling. More is not better with kratom; past a point, extra mitragynine adds harshness rather than benefit.
The half-tablet start isn't a legal formality. Extract tablets are where people who "know their powder dose" get surprised, because they skip the calibration step.
How to split a cross-scored tablet
Tempo tablets are scored in a cross, so they break into halves or quarters. To get a clean half: hold the tablet with the score line facing up, thumbs on either side of the line, and press down and away in one motion. It should snap with minimal crumbling. Quarters (5 mg mitragynine) are possible by splitting a half, and useful for very light servings or for people who are unusually sensitive.
Keep the unused half in the sachet or blister pocket and fold it closed. It's fine for a few days; it's a dry pressed tablet, not a liquid.
Food and timing
- Empty or light stomach: faster onset, somewhat stronger peak. This is where a half tablet is the right first move.
- After a full meal: slower, softer, longer. Onset can stretch to 45–60 minutes. Don't re-dose because "it isn't working"; that's the single most common way people end up taking more than they meant to.
- Chew or swallow: both work. Chewing (it's flavored for this) speeds disintegration and tends to shave a few minutes off onset. Swallowing whole with water is fine.
- Hydrate. Kratom is mildly dehydrating for many people. A glass of water with the tablet and another later is a good habit.
Spacing servings and daily limits
Wait at least six hours between servings. Don't stack a second tablet on top of a first that's still active; the effects overlap in ways that are more uncomfortable than useful. Until you're familiar with how Tempo affects you, keep it to one tablet per day. Regular users should think about frequency honestly: kratom products can be habit-forming, and the way to keep a serving working for you is to not use it every day and not creep the dose. The label says this and we mean it.
What you should expect from a serving
We describe Tempo in terms like smooth, full, clean energy at a half and a calmer, rounder feel at a full tablet. People use it before a social evening, for a focused work block, or to wind down. What you should not expect is the fast, heavy profile of 7-OH tablets; Tempo doesn't contain added 7-OH and isn't trying to replicate that shape. See onset, peak and duration for the timeline and 13-OH vs 7-OH for the comparison.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the half. "I take 5 g of powder so a tablet is nothing." Maybe. Calibrate anyway.
- Re-dosing at 20 minutes. You're inside the onset window. Wait.
- Taking it with alcohol or other substances. Don't. Kratom plus alcohol is a bad combination, and interactions with medications are a real reason to talk to a physician first.
- Driving. Do not operate a vehicle or machinery after use.
- Daily use by default. Keep it occasional and it keeps working.
Matching the serving to the moment
| Situation | Serving | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| First time, any history | Half tablet | Light stomach, wait 45 min, stop for the day |
| Focused work block | Half tablet | 30–40 min before you start |
| Social evening | Half to one tablet | 45–60 min before |
| Winding down | One tablet | 1–2 h before you'd like to be settled |
| Unusually sensitive | Quarter tablet | Same rules; calibrate up slowly |
None of these involve more than one tablet, and none involve driving afterward.
Storage and shelf life
Keep tablets in the sealed sachet or blister, at room temperature, away from humidity. Check the expiry printed on the pack. Keep out of reach of children and pets: the tablets are flavored and look like candy, which is exactly why they ship in child-resistant-style foil and carry the warning.
Which pack to buy
If you're calibrating, the Tempo 1ct sachet ($7.99) is the right purchase: one tablet, two servings if you split it. Once you know your serving, the Tempo 4ct blister ($24.99) is the better value. Both come in Mixed Berry Blast, Blue Razz Slush and Strawberry Dream. Shop here, and check the FAQ for shipping and the states we can't ship to.
Frequently asked questions
How much of a kratom extract tablet should I take the first time?
Half a tablet. For Tempo that's half of the 250 mg blend: 10 mg mitragynine plus 15 mg corydalis extract. Wait 30–45 minutes and don't take more that day.
Can I take two tablets?
We don't recommend it. One tablet is the established serving. Taking more increases harshness, not benefit, and increases the chance of nausea. If one tablet isn't doing what you want, the answer is usually spacing and frequency, not dose.
Should I take it with food?
A light stomach gives a faster, cleaner onset; a full meal gives a slower, softer one. Either is fine. Just don't re-dose early because a post-meal serving is taking longer to arrive.
